Greece is our country! And we are welcoming you to feel like home, and maybe by the end of your project you can also say: Greece is my country! Greece is the country you have chosen (or about to choose) to spend your European Voluntary Service. Every year, there are more than 100 young people that are chosen to do their EVS in Greece and much (really much) more people that are applying for it! On this section of the website you can find a vast amount of information concerning Greece, Greek and Greeks! The information is huge! Some would say as huge as our presence in this land! Accordingly, we have made a selection in order to intrigue your senses and start your own trip of discovering Greece through EVS. 
Largely due to the nature of the colors on the
official flag of Greece it is popularly referred to as the “blue white”. The flag consists of horizontal stripes blue and white placed at equal intervals and they are 9 in number. These 9 strips represent the 9 syllables of the phrase which reads as follows: "eleftheria i thanatos – e-le-fthe-ri-a i tha-na-tos”this phrase means Freedom or Death. Another particular theory that is in circulation says that the 9 stripes represent the 9 Muses of Classical mythology who depicted art and civilization. |
