Public Holidays
  • 1st of January: New Year’s Day
  • 6th of January: Epiphany: Concecration of the waters in the Piraeus Area. The cross is cast to the sea and young men dive in to retrieve it.
  • 41 days before Eastern: Srove Monday (Kathari Deytera): The commencement of Lenten fasting. On this day we fly kites!
  • 25th of March: Independence Day
  • Good Friday to Easter Bank Holiday: In the afternoon of Good Friday, people holding candles and singing psalms join the procession of the Epitaph in every town and village of Greece.
  • Eve of Easter: Ressurection: We celebrate the resurrection with fireworks and flares at midnight.
  • Eastern Day: According to custom, we eat spited lamp and the festivities include lots of music and dancing
  • 1st of May: International Labour Day
  • 50 days after Easter: Pentecost
  • 15th of August: The Dormition of the Virgin
  • 28th of October: The ‘Ohi’ (‘No’) Day
  • 25th and 26th of December: Christmas
